Day in the life of
Tour Guide – Peyton Jordan
My name is Peyton Jordan and I am a tour director who has been working in the travel and tourism industry for 8 years! I lead groups of approximately 40 people around different cities, national parks, and countries for multi-day vacations! I also recently started my own company called Happy Journeys Co. that offers privately guided and socially distant road trips.
My typical day does not exist! Every day is completely different which is why I love my job SO much! From riding the elevator to the top of the Eiffel Tower to riding a speed boat in London down the river Thames to hiking down the Grand Canyon- no two days are alike. What does stay the same is being the host with the most and the one in charge of the organization and flow of the trip! I make sure everything is running smoothly, everyone is one time, I problem solve CONSTANTLY when things go awry and of course, provide commentary and stories to keep the guests entertained!
Pros
The pros of my job are getting paid to travel the world and actually SEE and experience what everyone comes there to see! As a tour director, you are never stuck in a conference room on a business trip wishing you could go out and explore. We also get plenty of exercise and great food! We get to meet new people constantly and just have a great time!
Cons
The cons are being away from family, friends and your home for 6 months out of the year does get lonely sometimes! Also if something goes wrong you are the one in charge and sometimes you may have to handle uncomfortable situations with upset guests. But overall it is one million times worth it!
Tour Guides
escort individuals or groups on sightseeing tours or through places of interest, such as industrial establishments, public buildings, and art galleries.
