Residential Sales Manager – Jeremy Pearl

Jeremy Pearl
Sandbar Solar & Electric

Morning

I start my mornings responding to customer emails and follow-up calls.

By 9am I’m usually working on the following projects:

  • Coaching my sales team on how to optimize their work efforts
  • Developing marketing programs to increase Sandbar’s brand awareness and increase new leads (customer inquiries)
  • Revising proposals for customers that I’m working with directly
  • Planning for weekly sales meetings
  • Developing training materials

Afternoon

In the early-mid afternoon, I typically meet with 1 or 2 new clients or meet with clients I’ve already met with one time to present them with a new solar and/or battery system option.

End of day

By 4pm I’m typically back at my office making calls to new potential customers to set up in-home meetings to discuss their interest in solar & batteries. During this time I’m also reaching out to customers who I’ve already presented proposals to, and see if they’re ready to move forward (or discuss any outstanding questions they have).

Pros

  • I love the work that I do – helping people make the switch to renewable energy and install home battery backup systems. I truly get to help make the world a better place every day I go to work.
  • I work with great people
  • I get to meet with a lot of intelligent & interesting people
  • I help my team sell more solar and improve their sales techniques
  • My work is a combination of office work (50%) and fieldwork (50%), including driving to beautiful parts of the Central Coast when I’m meeting with new clients
  • The pay is above average (mix of base salary and commission), with a high earning potential
  • I love meeting with and talking with people –working in sales has me talking with hundreds of new potential clients each year

Cons

  • Long hours sometimes, especially in the first 15 years of my sales career (including evenings and weekends)
  • The solar industry is an always-and-fast changing industry, so it requires constant learning and adapting to industry changes
  • Some customers can be challenging, especially if the build-out/installation doesn’t go perfect (a rare thing if you work for a great company like Sandbar)
  • Working on commission can be stressful if there’s ever a “down” period, and in most sales jobs, sales are cyclical and there can be times when the sales are hard to come by
