Day in the life of
Advertising Manager – Julien Raby
Working at an advertising agency can be a valuable experience for you, as you’ll learn skills that you can take to a lot of places. Especially in the online business world where advertising skills will always be valuable.
What it is like depends a lot on the size of the agency. If you work for a large agency, you’ll be given support and training and will have more resources at your disposal. If you work for a small agency you may have to do a lot of self-teaching and get involved in other areas of the business growth like acquiring clients and running marketing campaigns, as well as doing your advertising work for clients.
The main task for you no matter what the size of the agency you work for will be learning about advertising principles and concepts for the creatives, as well as how to run campaigns on platforms like Facebook and Google, and then designing the ads and running them for clients. Those are pretty much the guaranteed tasks, the rest is dependent on the agency you work for.
As advertising managers, we have fast and imaginative careers! We are responsible for designing and conducting company promotional campaigns. Our primary objective is to foster trust in a good or service. We work alongside art directors, sales representatives, and finance personnel, advertisement administrators to design and bring these campaigns to life. We work in advertising companies, which bring together advertising ads for customers, media firms that offer space, time, and heavily advertising organizations. We also work with promotional personnel and others to formulate strategies for a publicity strategy and supervise employees who develop ads. Moreover, we meet the finance department in preparation of the budget and costs.
An average day in the life of an advertising manager is spent in an office. Jobs in advertising usually are stressful, particularly when deadlines are approaching. They could be required to fly in order to consult with customers or members of the media. Interpersonal and observational skills are two of the most common qualities of advertising managers. Since the advertisement market is rapidly evolving as a result of the emergence of digital media and the global world in general, analytical skills are needed. We must be able to assess market patterns in order to decide which tactics are most likely to succeed with our company or customers. In order to handle our time and budget effectively when leading and empowering team members, other essential attributes include excellent leadership skills, ingenuity, good decision-making skills, and well-developed management skills.
Pros and Cons
The pros of being an advertising manager are that we have high pay and we work in a decision-making position. There are no apparent cons of working as an advertising manager, but the job puts a lot of responsibilities on you. Other than that, you must have both creative and analytical skills to create an effective advertising campaign within a limited budget.
