Day in the life of
Travel Blogger – Amanda O’Brien
I am a travel blogger. I started my blog The Boutique Adventurer in 2016.
A typical day begins with checking my website statistics from the day before and my overnight emails. I work a lot with the United States and live in London so quite a bit comes in overnight.
I would then spend an hour or so on social media – responding to comments and checking in on the many Facebook blogging groups of which I am a member. I would then spend about 90 minutes working on upcoming trips – emails with PRs about itineraries, doing SEO research, doing trip planning.
The balance of my day is spent on writing new articles or updating old articles. This includes editing and resizing photos, adding links, doing SEO research.
I would say about 50% of my time is spent on keeping things going with my website/administration like checking statistics, monitoring social media, and dealing with emails for trips to sponsored posts to potential affiliates. The other 50% is spent writing or optimizing articles – this is a mix of editing photos, outlines for articles, actual writing, etc.
Pros
The pros are of course I get to have amazing travel experiences and they are provided in return for content on my site and social media platforms. To be honest it is more about tourism boards providing amazing experiences vs not paying for things. Also, I have always loved photography and enjoy all the time I get to spend on photos in the name of work. And I also love SEO research!
Cons
The cons are that if you want to be a successful travel blogger you will need to spend about 85% of your time on your laptop and 15% traveling. There is definitely a limit to how much time can be spent traveling without compromising on the performance of your site and your social media platforms.
