Day in the life of
Tourism Marketing Specialist – Lauren Monitz
I’m responsible for any type of destination promotion from economic development to niche market targeting. There is no typical day. 🙂 Sometimes we’re planning and executing events, sometimes I’m updating our social media and website, sometimes we’re working on our print visitors’ guide or graphics, sometimes I’m hosting media, negotiating contracts with influencers and vendors, or at tradeshows and conventions promoting our destination.
Today, I’m making invitations for a media launch for a new Cajun Trail we’re unveiling this weekend, editing a press release for the program, rounding up analytics for a board report, and scheduling our social media for the next two weeks.
A typical day involves alternating between meetings with public stakeholders, media and local influencers, and screen time, keeping up with our website, public profiles, and engagement online.
Pros
If you like thinking outside the box there’s tons of opportunity to be creative, plus we’re getting paid to promote travel and travel to different destinations and trade shows to introduce our destination to new audiences.
Cons
You have to learn to be creative within the constructs of a city government organization and it’s challenging to get yourself to stand out amongst all the other destinations.
