Jessica Armstrong
Marketing Associate
TeamUp

My name is Jessica and I am the Marketing Associate at TeamUp, fitness management software for gyms, studios, CrossFit boxes, and personal trainers. I have always been very passionate about fitness, wellness, and exercise and while I started my career in the hospitality and travel sectors, in September 2020 I joined the TeamUp marketing team and am very happy to be able to merge my career and my passion together.

At TeamUp my responsibilities include curating and producing all of our internal and external marketing content including blog posts, social media posts, guest posts, and facilitating interviews with external publications and platforms, as well as newsletters and internal marketing and promotion-related communication with our clients, and PR.

Our blog typically consists of resources that will help our clients run their fitness businesses. Whether that’s a guide on how to use our tools or best practices for running a business or a case study from one of our clients, on a typical day I will write one blog and publish an edited blog. I will also curate and schedule the social posts and build out the promotion for that post. I also interview anywhere from 3-5 customers weekly for case study material and testimonial videos that we feature on our website and social media. We have several different campaigns running at one time, so depending on if we are in the planning, building, or promotion stages I will work on the content involved in that stage.

Pros

I get to work with so many interesting people in the industry and it has helped me really understand my clients’ needs better on a more relatable level rather than just a client to associate level. I know them and what they need and we have a relationship where they can count on me to provide them with the content.

I also love that I have a lot of creative freedom that stems from what people are actually looking for and need to run their businesses. I have always loved writing and I feel very fortunate that as a Marketing Associate writing and curating content allows me to do that while also having a positive impact on my clients.

I also enjoy how rooted in fact-based needs marketing is. There is so much creativity, but being able to say yes, I am taking creative liberties here or exploring other topics based on this topic because of its relevance has always been something I have enjoyed about marketing.

There are also so many avenues to explore and while building my career, I have been very fortunate to use my experience in marketing and the projects and teams I have been a part of to showcase my own achievements and growth. For example, I have been featured and interviewed for a few amazing publications based on my marketing and public relations skills and the projects I am working on which while that has to do with my job, came from external opportunities and I am able to elevate my job and my work experience to provide evidence of what I have achieved personally as well. This also reflects well back on to the company I am working for and the confidence that our clients put in me to go above and beyond to provide them with accurate and helpful information about running and marketing their businesses.

Cons

Our team is small (but growing). Marketing is very exciting as there are so many different avenues, but if you wind up wearing too many hats at once some things can fall through the cracks. Having a routine and being able to map out your day to day and long term projects and tasks can be challenging when new things pop up that you want to address or tackle asap.

Time management has always been something I have prioritized and especially working remotely, being organized and efficient with your time is crucial to not only get everything you need to done but done well.
