Travel Blogger – Julie Falconer
My typical day varies depending on what I need to do, but it can include anything from writing a blog post to editing photos and videos, analyzing website and social media data, and traveling itself. I also spend a lot of time sharing and engaging with my followers on social media.
I dedicate some days to single tasks, and others to lots of smaller projects. For example, on Thursdays, I spend most of my day writing blog posts for A Lady in London and adding photos and other media to them. On Fridays, I schedule social media posts for the upcoming week. Other days I do things like email with potential partners and sponsors, shoot footage for YouTube videos, and do photoshoots for future blog and social media posts.
Pros
The best things about my job are getting to travel for a living, writing, photographing, and hearing from my followers that I’ve inspired them to visit the places I’ve shared about. I love writing, so it’s great to be able to sit down and write blog posts. Photography was something I’d wanted to get into before I started A Lady in London, and when I did, it was the perfect excuse to learn. Now it’s a big part of my job and I love shooting, editing, and sharing my photos. I also like that each day is different and that I’m learning new skills all the time. From the technical side of running a website to creative skills like videography, there’s always something new. Traveling is a big pro of my job, too. From day trips to multi-week trips, I love that I get to travel and call it my career.
Cons
The biggest downside of running a travel blog for a living is that my job is fairly all-consuming and I don’t get a lot of time off. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed, I’m working. Whether it’s checking my social media accounts to respond to comments or replying to emails, I’m always on.
