I’m a teacher with a degree in education and over a decade of experience teaching kids from preschool through high school, and the founder of Homeschooling 4 Him. Before starting Homeschooling 4 Him, I spent several years working as a school music teacher for kids in preschool and elementary school.

My day was organized around my class schedule. I taught each class at a specific time on certain days of the week, so I organized my schedule around those lessons. My other tasks included planning lessons, grading, and record-keeping, communicating with parents and other teachers, and planning for events like concerts and open houses.

Pros

• I loved getting to know and working with my students. It was incredibly rewarding to see their excitement at learning something new. I enjoyed knowing that I was making a difference in their lives.
• I had the opportunity to share a subject that I was passionate about with my students and watch them learn. It was so much fun to share my love of music with my students and to see them learn to love it as well. It was rewarding to see their pride as they were developing new skills.
• Most teachers have extensive time off over the summer and during school vacations, which is a nice benefit.

Cons

• The amount of planning and record-keeping that is required to be successful as a teacher is extensive. Many new teachers are surprised by what a large component of the job this is.
• Because of the workload and the level of emotional investment required, jobs in education can be exhausting.
• Salaries for teachers are often relatively low, compared to the amount of education required and the workload.
