Day in the life of
Pilates Instructor – Cassandra Cotta
I’m the founder and owner of Pilates People, a completely virtual Pilates studio. As such, I’m also a Pilates instructor 🙂
Since our studio is virtual, I have the pleasure of teaching most things out of the comfort of my home which means I typically wake up somewhere between 6:45 and 8 am, make coffee and breakfast, and get ready to teach. I typically teach 2 – 4 hours in the morning which consists of both private sessions and group classes. Then I try to go on a run and I’ll teach 1-2 more sessions in the afternoon/evening depending on the day.
Since I am also the studio owner, I’m currently responsible for responding to client emails/behind the scenes admin work and future planning. So there are at least 2 hours of those tasks in the day, occasionally more.
Luckily, teaching takes up the majority of my time, which is great because it’s the reason I’m here and the thing I love best.
Pros
My job has so many pros – I get to choose my own schedule (to some extent), I get to do the thing that I love and share my joy of it with like-minded people, I get to learn from my clients and fellow instructors on a daily basis, it keeps me moving which I am so thankful for and because bodies are ever-evolving, it never gets boring! There is always something new for me to discover – particularly now that I’m also a business owner.
Cons
The one con that came to mind immediately is that while I do get to make my own schedule, my schedule is also very dependent upon my clients and their lives. So when someone is sick or injured, I absolutely want to support them in taking time to recover, but that means my paycheck will suffer. It’s something I’ve spent years navigating and for the most part isn’t a problem anymore, but it absolutely comes with the territory and isn’t always the most fun thing to deal with.
