Jewelry Designer
Joyeria Flor de la Vida

As a jewelry designer for Flor de la Vida, the first thing I have to say is that if there is not a deep connection with my feeling and my creative mind, it would not be possible for me to make any design, therefore the work day depends on three main factors, the same ones that make up my north and accompany me daily.

The first objective is to ensure that the design that I am about to conceive is always created from Love and to ensure that it connects in its entirety, with the same frequency and vibration of the client’s need. This is the best way to achieve a satisfied client and being the main objective, is the engine that animates my work and the fundamental piece of my expression as a designer.

The second objective depends on if there is a client who is interested in a piece of personalized jewelry. If so, the objective is to obtain as much information as possible about their desired bespoke piece. This is usually done by email or personally if they visit us in our showroom. The first stage is to collect the basic information about the bespoke piece, such as the size of the ring (rings are most common), the measurements, the type of ring, the precious stone that will be set and its shape, any general details about the style, taste, and personality of the future owner of the jewel. It is very important to understand the sentimental link with the personalized piece that is requested, so I should know, is it for an anniversary gift? Is it a piece to commemorate a special event in life? Is it a jewel to remember a deceased loved one? This information is very important to ensure that the piece reflects the emotional connection that every jewel should have with its wearer.

Once all this information and the details of the required jewel have been collected, some sketches are made by hand, although most of the design will be done in CAD software. Once the design is shaped, it is ready to be shown to the customer as a draft. Here they will have the opportunity to provide very specific information that they may not have been able to explain beforehand. This process continues until the customer is satisfied with the design.

The third objective focuses on what is the next marketing campaign. While not every day there is a piece of bespoke jewelry to create, there is always an upcoming campaign. These campaigns, designed and based on our service to society, can be anything from summer themed wedding bands, luxury cocktail rings, formal brooches, etc., and it is here where the marketing team will give the guidelines in this regard and my work, in coherence with them, it is aimed at interpreting, innovating, creating and presenting.

Pros

The advantages of this job are many. There is great satisfaction in seeing how the process comes to life and is transformed from an idea that the client had and then turned into a jewel delivered as a final product. Whether the jewel has been manufactured based on a unique and personalized design or chosen through one of our campaigns, making it a symbol of union, of remembrance, and of Love, with the person who will wear it, is our greatest joy and most gratifying is that the jewelry designer is involved in this entire sequence.

Another great contentment is being able to do what I like and being able to express my creativity in each design. At that moment, work stops being work and becomes a pleasure and a pleasure that allows me to serve others.

Cons

The cons are few; deadlines can be demanding and since it is a creative job, sometimes an artistic blockage can occur, but despite this, you will need to have a finished product. This can be stressful, but you can always overcome this hurdle with determination. The joy of seeing our clients happy and satisfied with our work is priceless and is the great reward of a job done and born from Love towards others.

Advice to aspiring Jewelry Designers

We all are potential creators some more than others, but definitely our human essence is meant to be creative at all times of life.

We are even creating when we prepare our food, only we do not realize that we are using that potential, because those are routine activities. If you see yourself feeling a force that is eager to express itself, through any artistic manifestation, dabble in and try options, such as painting, writing, photography, but if you are passionate about the idea of designing jewelry, take advantage of that impulse and work towards achieving it. That work begins by eradicating from your mind and your feeling any doubt about your creative potential. You can and have to be convinced of it. Be curious and investigate everything that has to do with the subject. While you decide on how you are going to carry out your training, either through courses or as a self-taught, implement a daily routine and dedicate a specific time a day to create a design; even if it is not perfect yet, it is important to have that discipline to strengthen the will. Later you will realize that, if your mind is faced with an artistic blockage, that discipline and that will become your best allies to get out of it. And finally, think big, imagine yourself in the future, creating the most beautiful and coveted jewels, displayed in a beautiful catalog with your signature. When that future arrives, you will know that all your effort was worth it.
