Day in the life of
Associate Professor of Practice – Dino Villegas
I am an Associate Professor of Practice at the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University.
A typical day differs depending on whether I am teaching or not. I generally teach 1 every other day.
The work, in general, is divided into 3 areas, Teaching, Services, and Research, depending on the specific role, the emphasis on each component. For example, Tenure/Tenure Tracks professor emphasis is more on research, professors of practice as in my cases (other universities use the term clinical professor) focus more on service and teaching, particularly in my case the service component is related to advising a student organization and developing connections with the industry. Whatever the emphasis professor most of the time work on the 3 areas.
Pros
In general one of the greatest benefits of a business professor is that you are able to be learning all the time, whatever doing research, class preparation, or teaching you have to love curiosity and new knowledge. Another wonderful thing is that you are able to help others fulfill their dreams, not just in the teaching part, but in the direct work with students, advising them on careers and planning their future.
