Day in the life of
Licensed Clinical Social Worker – Dian Grier, LCSW
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Sometimes I use the title of psychotherapist since my job is clinical in nature.
I work from home generally seeing 5-7 patients via Zoom to work on various issues including anxiety, depression, self-worth, relationships, sexual identity, and many other topics. I assist people to let go of issues so they can feel freer to be authentic and live a happy life.
Pros
There are so many pros to my job. The most positive part of my job is that I get to feel a sense of purpose in my work. I am grateful to work with people and see them change in significant ways. I also work from home, which gives me space to take a walk in nature in between clients. I see all my clients via telehealth, which allows the clients to feel comfortable in their own space. I also am able to work for myself, which is great if you are a self-starter. I get to meet people from all walks of life and learn about how they view the world. As a clinical social worker, I have had many different types of jobs including: hospice work, crisis work, military assistance, addiction treatment, prison therapy and more. The options for types of jobs are very open and I can change up what I do as a social worker if I become burnt out in one area.
Cons
A few cons of my job include: lots of paperwork and writing, billing insurance, and sometimes working with people who do not have the desire for change. The cons are not bad and I wouldn’t trade this job for anything. It does take quite a while to go through school, graduate with a masters and then be supervised for 2 years and take multiple exams to become licensed. It is a long road, but well worth it.
