I’m a destination wedding and event planner and the task that tends to take up the most time is research. When a client reaches out to me, I need to find them the perfect wedding or event space as well as the ideal vendors to fit their specific needs and to bring their vision to reality. The choices are endless but it’s our job to narrow them down and present them to the clients in a timely manner.

There’s also a host of communication that also follows once a venue and vendors are contracted, which means that asking questions and answering questions becomes another thing that I spend a great deal of time doing!

A typical day is not very glamorous and it includes sitting at my desk for a tremendous amount of hours. Of course, the event days where you are running the show and the days leading up to this tend to balance out the sitting still, and can be very exciting since they often include traveling to that destination.

Pros

I absolutely love being a destination wedding and event planner! Pros include being an instrumental part of being able to make someone’s dreams come true! Using my expertise to help someone who is overwhelmed and inexperienced is very rewarding. Not to mention the wonderful travel experiences we get to have, making those trips into both work and play trips! In addition, discounted trips are often available to travel professionals so that they can check out a new destination at a reduced rate.

Cons

Cons include a tremendous amount of time spent to service my clients properly and changes in plans that could result in cancellations and other planning challenges. And of course, the stress that goes along with wedding and event planning is quite real and high on the “cons” list.
