David Cheung
Quality Engineer

My main job consists of analyzing warranty claims for our line of models. From this, I need to create reports daily on the biggest issues or complaints our vehicles are currently facing. Additionally, I report on market trends of competitors in the United States so that we can stay competitive.

Lastly, I work on big projects such as collecting vehicle data from customers/partners, analyzing the data, and presenting them so that upper management can make more informed decisions.

My typical day

8:00-8:30AM: Check and respond to emails.

8:30-10:30AM: Obtain warranty claim data, analyze, and create reports on the biggest issues for our product.

10:30-11:30AM: Meeting with vehicle engineers to find out what information/data they need for better investigation of vehicle issues.

12:00AM-1:00PM: Lunch.

1:00-3:00PM: Work on a large project involving obtaining vehicle data and analyzing said data.

3:00-5:00PM: Create reports on market trends, recalls, and complaints of our competitors.

Pros

  • Low stress, low pressure since a lot of the work is project-based.
  • Get first looks at new cars before they get released. Since we’re the quality division, we need to ensure quality is up to par before they are released.
  • Can drive company cars home. A lot of quality testing is actually done by driving the vehicle. The commute to and from work is a great time to test drive the vehicle.
  • The work is always new and refreshing. Due to the constant release of new vehicles, our work isn’t always the same. New issues, new problems always arise.

Cons

  • Can be challenging. Due to the vehicles always changing, new problems that we’ve never seen will arise.
  • Can be hard to keep up with competitors, especially with the change into electric vehicles.
