Day in the life of
Portrait Photographer – Paul Richardson
I’m a full-time portrait photographer and have been shooting professionally for 8 years now.
A typical day would either be working from my home office or at the studio shooting. Office days can consist of any number of tasks, accounting, editing, outreach.. basically trying to manage the day to day running of the business.
Shoot days are my favorite, and I’ll be out meeting people and capturing their portraits! This is what I truly love, meeting people and capturing them at their best. You’ve got to be thinking on your feet all the time, keeping the client engaged, calculating the right lighting styles, looking for those little moments where they look at their best,
It takes a lot of different skills to capture a great photo of someone, and it’s far more than just technical knowledge of how to use a camera.
Pros
The pros are doing something that you love, having no boss, and being in control of your own time and freedom.
Cons
The main con is having to be a jack of all trades. It’s not always fun shooting days, and you have to do plenty of other jobs that might not excite you.
But would I want to change careers for something else? Hell no!
