Day in the life of
Pediatric Dentist – William Kemper
I’m William Kemper, a pediatric dentist who has been treating the smiles of children since 1986.
My Typical Day
I wanted to be a pediatric dentist for as long as I can remember. I wanted to be able to fix the smiles of kids who lost their confidence. So for me, every day is like a challenge, because each new day brings a new set of teeth to be fixed.
As a dentist, my days are pretty unpredictable. I may be anticipating a child who needs braces but instead calms down a wailing kid who just lost his tooth from a bad fall. And then sometimes when you are waiting for the patients to come, you find out that they just canceled on you.
I work for fixed hours normally, but there are times when I come back home late because I had to attend to some emergency cases.
Pros
There are no pros and cons to working with children, but I will share the best and least favorite parts of my job. The best part of my job is meeting new kids every day. You can’t just get bored in the presence of kids. I make small talk and try to take away their focus from the injections and other equipment that I am about to put in their favorite mouths.
Cons
Least favourite part of my job would be when at times, is the amount of stress I sometimes get from doing my job. It is not easy to operate on a child. And one wrong step can ruin the future of a child.
