Day in the life of
Marketing Communications Executive – Amanda Thibaut
My role covers PR and media communications for all offices and I work closely with our digital PR executive and graphic designer in the marketing team.
The role is always busy with a number of projects on the go day to day. Generally, there will be a couple of articles to prepare either for magazines or our website, a morning check through any PR gained for the company and circulate notable mentions to the team as required, filter through email requests, and prioritize those that need action promptly. Pitch to journalists for story ideas to include our brand and regularly contact media to remain current. Weekly marketing team call to discuss strategy and plans plus catch up on what we are all working on. Research for website articles and research for alternative publications to contact to engage a wider audience. Create an ongoing monthly PR report with stats for the board. Often a lot of ad hoc requests during the day for proofing documents, creating ideas for stories, press releases, and a host of general requests.
Pros
It is varied and always busy – never a dull moment! Lots of people contact you and you need to like writing! Great when you get opportunities to interview people and create articles that are then published – real sense of achievement and PR gained for the brand.
Cons
Deadlines can often be difficult to manage with lots of people involved for an article. The ad hoc incoming requests can sometimes take a lot of time so it is important to be able to prioritize a workload and know your brand focus. I deal with 13 different offices in our company around the world so timing is key – it can be an early start and a late finish if Hong Kong needs something and so do the USA!
