Flight Attendant
A major U.S. airline
I spent about five years working as a flight attendant and loved it (for the most part).
Most of the training is safety-related (evacuations, medical situations, etc.), but the job itself is pretty easy. You’ve board the plane, do the safety demo, hand out snacks/drinks, collect trash, and relax the rest of the day. This makes it an awesome job for anyone who works another job or is building a business because they’ll have plenty of downtime during flights to work on those things.
Pros
- Extremely flexible schedule
- Great benefits (free flights on most airlines!)
- Getting paid to travel
- Lots of downtime to double-dip with another job
- Pretty solid pay for fairly easy work
- Work with new people every week and make lots of friends
Cons
- You’ll start on reserve which is basically just being on-call
- Hard on your body
- Difficult to maintain routines like sleep schedules and diets
- Can be a dead end for some, from a career skills perspective
- Could be difficult with relationships, pets, children, etc.
