Day in the life of
Diesel Mechanic – Anthony Boucher
My name is Anthony Boucher and I am the operations manager at A & J Generator. My experience consists of being a generator technician and diesel mechanic. My education is in Electrical Engineering. My job consists of keeping all of our departments flowing seamlessly. We have a service division, installation division, parts division, and rentals division.
To start my day, I am the first one in. First I go through the daily schedule of our technicians, this is to make sure they are ready with any type of parts they will need for that day. I will then add parts to each technician’s shelf for their respective day. When they come in, I give them a briefing on their jobs before they head out. Next, I will prepare the installation division on the day they have ahead as well. After everyone is briefed, I then begin my day.
Every day is a different challenge, somedays I am scheduling repairs with customers, performing customer service, assisting with the parts department, other days I am performing large repairs of generators. My favorite challenge is going to industrial generators that other generator companies cannot fix.
Pros
The pros of my job are that I learn something new every day! Whether it is learning how to run a better operation or learning more generator theory, every day is educational and is an absolute blast.
Cons
The only con of my job is that I always have to be ready to work. At A & J Generator, we pride ourselves on having the best service during any emergency situation, so this service comes at the price of me and my technicians ALWAYS ready to go on emergency service calls. At any second power can get cut off to any place for any reason, so if there is ever a generator failure during this time, we have to be ready at a moment’s notice at any time of the day to work. I even have canceled vacations because I knew a wind storm was coming for us that week. Even though I am always ready for emergency calls, I wouldn’t trade my job for anything. I absolutely love what I do and love my company.
Diesel Mechanics
Diesel Mechanics inspect, maintain, and repair vehicles containing diesel engines. They often consult with customers or review work orders to determine their tasks for the day.
