Day in the life of
Attorney – Michael Fayard
I’m an attorney and my areas of specialty are family law, personal injury, and criminal defense.
I don’t really have a typical day, because what my day looks like really depends on the cases that I’m working on currently. If I’ve got personal injury clients, then I ended up spending a lot of the day in hearings and court rooms. Otherwise, my day starts out at the office bright and early (before 8am). I use those early morning hours to catch up on memos, emails, notes from paralegals, etc. If I have to be in court, then I use the time to review the case and prepare pleadings and other legal documents. I spend a lot of time on the phone during the day checking-in with clients, talking with other attorneys, or just getting in contact with people who have information that I need for active cases. And my day goes longer than the typical 5pm office job because it seems like there’s always something new to do for a case or client.
Cons
The biggest con of working as an attorney is the hours. If you have kids, then you’re often out of the house before they’re away and you don’t get home until late in the evening.
Pros
As for pros, it’s a very rewarding feeling when you get to help someone who has been wronged. It feels good every single time.
