Registered Nurses assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. May advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Licensing or registration required. They also maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.

Other tasks include:

  • Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
  • Record patients’ medical information and vital signs.
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients’ conditions.
  • Inform physician of patient’s condition during anesthesia.
  • Administer local, inhalation, intravenous, or other anesthetics.
  • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.

Typical Day At Work

    It’s interesting to learn all of this about being a registered nurse. I have wanted to do that for a while now, and it’s time to choose my college major! After reading what a typical day included, like taking care of records and medical histories, I still think it’d be fun.
