Technical Writer – Lisa
I’ve enjoyed being a technical writer for over thirty years. It’s a job that offers a lot of flexibility, the ability to learn new topics and meet people from the entire organization.
There are technical writers for different industries and the requirements can vary. In general, the position requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as strong interviewing and organizational skills. As a technical writer, you will usually meet with a team, determine the purpose of the documents needed, and the intended audience. Next, you will gather information from interviews and documents, write for the specific audience, and validate the information with the SMEs (Subject Matter Experts).
As a technical writer, you’re able to take complex topics and simplify them. The benefits are the ability to meet many different people and constantly learn about new subjects
Documentation is usually the last step in a project plan, and often the project is behind schedule. Other team members aren’t always aware of the benefits that a technical writer can offer a project.
