Day in the life of
Operations Manager – Graham Cook
I am a Senior Operations Manager with A2 Global Risk, a Security Risk Management company that provides Security Consultancy, support, and advice along with Geo-political Risk Information to companies around the world. I have worked for a number of large international corporations in security risk management functions for the majority of my career.
I very rarely have two days the same as each of my clients has differing requirements. Current issues include advising clients and prospects on subjects such as:
- Insider threat (following extended periods of remote working)
- Travel Risk Management
- Due diligence investigations for Merger & Acquisition activity
- New Market Entry reports
- Security Audits
- Investigations & investigation management
- Journey management support
- Crisis Management Planning & Support
Pros
- An incredibly varied career that is both rewarding and challenging
- I enjoy finding answers to problems and l attempt to tailor solutions that will work for the intended audience
Cons
- Security is often an afterthought and is applied after an event
- Security is an expense to business & has to justified
- Traditionally seen as a follow up career for those leaving the Armed Forces or Law Enforcement – so difficult (though not impossible) to enter as a school/college leaver
General Managers
plan, direct, or coordinate the operations of public or private sector organizations, overseeing multiple departments or locations. Duties and responsibilities include formulating policies, managing daily operations, and planning the use of materials and human resources, but are too diverse and general in nature to be classified in any one functional area of management or administration, such as personnel, purchasing, or administrative services. Usually manage through subordinate supervisors.
