Interior Designer – Andra DelMonico
Being an interior designer is a demanding job that requires you to multitask. You need to be able to have a creative vision for a space and the organization to follow through with bringing that vision to life. Being an interior designer is about more than just making a room pretty. You need to think about your client’s needs and how they’ll use that space.
Daily life as an interior designer involves answering tons of emails and phone calls. There’s a bit of education as you try to fulfill a client’s dreams while also explaining a better option for less than ideal requests. It’s also essential to find some quiet time where you can let your brain relax. These are the moments where you can get some brilliant ideas.
Pros
The best thing about being an interior designer is the opportunity to assist people. You can get to know them, develop a relationship, and help them achieve something that will make their lives better. Their reaction to a completed space is rewarding.
Another benefit is the freedom to be creative and continually be challenged by new hurdles. This allows you to develop your skills and be innovative in your solutions.
Cons
It’s not common, but the worst part is when a client isn’t satisfied. You work hard, and whether you didn’t achieve their expectations or meet a deadline, it’s disappointing.
There’s also the risk of burnout. Having a career that requires you to be creative on demand can create a lot of mental pressure. This can lead to burnout, where you struggle to see beyond what you’ve already done. This is why it’s so important to take mental breaks from your projects.
