Day in the life of
Austin City Council Member – Mackenzie Kelly
I am a current Austin City Council member working full time daily in Government.
My typical day varies. Some days I’m in meetings with different departments and constituents listening to their concerns about the community. Other days, I’m in committee meetings or briefings. Once every week or every two weeks, I sit in day long council meetings to vote on items that come before council regarding city business.
Pros
The pros of my role are that I am able to make a substantial change for the community.
Cons
The cons of my job are that oftentimes I feel that no matter how many hours I put into my day, I still haven’t gotten enough done. There is a lot of work to do and not enough hours in the day. Being an elected official allows me to have full autonomy over my schedule and day to day work.
