Day in the life of
Athlete – Koushik Biswas
I play professional cricket in Kolkata. I am a first division club cricketer.
To answer your first question- In the season, generally, we play three matches per week. So, one day of full rest. And, two days of training and gym sessions in between.
It is the off-season that we toil hard, get fit, and plan our games. My day start at 5.30 a.m in the morning. A running season and speed work post that from 6-7.30-7.45. Then I eat a heavy breakfast to recover well and fuel myself. Then, a tactical season follows with my coach. After that pre-lunch meal (I have six meals a day). Then, lunch at around 1.30 in the after and a power nap to recover physically and mentally. From 3 in the afternoon we start doing nets. We try to implement every plan that we did during the tactical season and work on execution.
Then I do a 1-hour strength session in the gym 4 days a week. I sleep at around 9 pm. Before that, I have my self-made protein shake to make myself ready for the next day.
So, I think the nets take up most of my time. Planning and executing a game plan takes a lot of time and energy. Along with that I think making and eating six meals a day also take a lot of my time.
Pros
When you love the job you do, it does not feel like work. Sport makes me discipline. My attitude is built around sport. I believe there is always hope till the last run is scored or the last ball is bowled. This makes me one of the toughest competitors in the market too. Also, the sport has helped me to be humble, to start from zero every day, and earn the day.
Cons
The only con that it has is the injuries and the age limit. No matter how good we are, we can play till a certain age. Moreover, injuries are part of our lives. So, a long injury can always finish a career. So, this instability makes the career of a sportsman very hard.
