Magoosh LSAT Review
Are you planning on taking the LSAT, going to law school and becoming a “Big Law” attorney? If so, it is time to start preparing to help you earn admission to a top tier law school.
Today, we will be reviewing Magoosh LSAT prep course.
I had my doubts when I first heard about Magoosh but quickly became a believer after giving the company’s online prep course a try. Complete with video lessons, practice questions and in-depth explanations, the Magoosh LSAT course will help you ace the LSAT or at least improve your score by a significant margin. In fact, Magoosh even provides savvy tutors by way of email in the event that you encounter any hurdles while using the online prep materials. After using Magoosh, I recommend it to fellow college students without hesitation. Here’s why.
You desire the option of communicating with experienced LSAT tutors by way of email
You desire video lessons with detailed explanations along with practice question banks
You are interested in a customizable platform
You are on the prowl for an affordable LSAT prep course that does not zap your budget
You are looking for an LSAT prep course that is easy and simple to go through
You are looking for live or online tutoring
You learn better by reading the written word rather than watching/listening to video
What we like
With a seemingly endless number of practice questions, the upper tiers of Magoosh’s LSAT prep course are quite impressive. These prep questions are pulled directly from LSAT PrepTests 72, 77, 78, 79 and 80.
Combined with video lessons highlighted by informative explanations, the Magoosh LSAT practice questions are quite helpful for reinforcing test-taking concepts. You can access these test prep questions from all web-connected mobile devices, providing you with the opportunity to gear up for the LSAT from any location.
Magoosh LSAT prep videos are responsive and informative. Savvy instructors provide in excess of 90 lessons through video content. These lessons prove quite helpful for Reading Comprehension, Logic Games and Logical Reasoning. Magoosh’s LSAT prep videos also educate students about the basics of the LSAT test, ultimately helping them accomplish what matters most: boosting the LSAT score and earning admission into a Tier 1 law school.
Furthermore, this test prep service provides more than 500 video-based explanations of actual LSAT exam sections and questions. These videos really do make it easy for students to develop test-taking strategies and ultimately fulfill their potential.
The LSAC Official Prep Plus is included in their Premium plans, providing a library consisting of more than 60 official LSAT practice exams. These exams were given to real test-takers on prior dates. However, be aware that their Starter plan does not include access to the LSAC Official Prep Plus.
With that said, I would recommend going for either one of their Premium plans because for an extra $100 more, you get more bang for your buck.
When it comes to online LSAT prep courses, the user experience design is just as important as the actual test prep materials. After all, if the platform cannot be navigated with ease, it will not prove effective. Thankfully, Magoosh has an intuitive user experience design. Click the menus and videos, take the practice tests, use the other features and you will agree the user experience design is nearly flawless. The video lessons are particularly informative and easy to use. In short, this is a fairly simple and direct platform that makes LSAT prep easy.
While going through the course, I found the platform to be quite flexible, intuitive and insightful. In fact, you can even seamlessly segue from practice questions to video content, practice exams and other components of the website without delay or impediment. Though Magoosh’s LSAT prep service does not have all the fancy bells and whistles of other platforms, it has enough material to prepare you for the big day in an organized and efficient manner.
Magoosh is so confident in its LSAT review program that it provides +5 score guarantee on both of its premium versions. This means if you do not increase your LSAT score by five points or more after paying for one of the two premium tiers, you will be provided with a refund. The only catch is you have to have taken the initial LSAT test within five years of the second test. If your score does not increase by five points, send pictures of both test scores to Magoosh and you will be provided with a refund.
Furthermore, if you purchase this premium service and contact Magoosh within a week after the date of purchase to express your disappointment, you will be provided with a full refund. However, just about everyone who tries Magoosh’s LSAT Premium tier finds it quite helpful. The mere fact that Magoosh is willing to back up its quality promise with a no strings attached full money refund guarantee is a testament to the service’s merit.
Magoosh’s LSAT Prep course is easily accessible regardless of your preferred device for web use. As long as you can connect to the internet with your smartphone, laptop or tablet, you will be empowered to access this test prep material. In fact, Magoosh even goes to the extent of providing its customers with a convenient app for the optimal user experience regardless of your specific location. Furthermore, those who prefer to use a traditional desktop computer will be able to access the test prep material from the comfort of home. Whether you prefer a PC or Mac, you will be able to take full advantage of Magoosh’s prep course.
If you are interested in Magoosh’s LSAT review program yet do not want to plunk down a couple hundred dollars of your hard-earned money, opt for the free trial. The week-long free trial provides 16 LSAT lessons along with 20 LSAT questions straight from prior LSAT exams which I found enough to get a good feel on whether their prep course is right for you.
What we didn’t like
If Magoosh has any glaring flaws it is in the prep course’s lack of structure. Learners who master material best when provided with a rigid structure will find the freeform nature of Magoosh’s LSAT prep course to be slightly disappointing. Though Magoosh tracks student usage, the service does not schedule live tutoring lessons or gauge performance in order to provide suggestions. Furthermore, there is no overarching structure to facilitate learning in a coherent manner.
In short, users are empowered to use this online prep course’s learning materials as they see fit. This means those who require rigid structure and ongoing supervision to remain on track might not find Magoosh’s LSAT review program to be the best option.
All three price plans provide helpful email assistance from tutors. However, there is no guarantee you will receive a timely response to your inquiry after firing off an email. It would have been better if Magoosh offered real-time customer service through a live chat feature, a phone number or even video conferencing by way of Zoom or another video streaming service. However, Magoosh instructors also deserve praise for generating their own unique practice questions that are fairly similar to those presented on the actual LSAT test.
Ideally, Magoosh would hire independent contractors to provide LSAT tutoring on its behalf in major cities throughout the United States. Unfortunately, it does not appear as though Magoosh will provide any such service in the near future. However, the couple times I emailed a Magoosh LSAT tutor, I received a timely response so the service certainly deserves credit for checking its email at a high frequency. You should receive a response to your email inquiry within two days or less.
How much does it cost
Available on all web-connected devices, the LSAT Starter sets the stage for LSAT success without zapping your savings. Though this tier is fairly basic, it provides enough information to help you approach, if not meet, your true potential on test day.
Includes: More than 300 official LSAT practice questions are provided with the LSAT Starter tier. This level also provides video explanations. In total, more than 90 video lessons are available. The LSAT Starter also provides timed practice tests including the actual LSAT interface that you will use on the day of the test.
Who should get this: If price is your primary concern, the LSAT Starter plan is for you. Highlighted by timed practice tests and three months of access, this is the perfect plan for those who want to prepare for the LSAT without investing an egregiously large sum of money in a learning platform that has not yet earned their trust.
LSAT Premium – 3 Months
Includes: More than 7,000 LSAT questions complete with informative video explanations providing valuable insight into the correct responses to questions from eight tests. The LSAT Premium tier provides more than 200 explanations for those all-important Logic Games.
Who should get this: Those interested in timed practice tests that provide a guaranteed +5 LSAT score will get their money’s worth from the LSAT Premium level. Furthermore, this tier also provides the Official LSAC Prep Plus, a $99 value, in the $229 sticker price. Each of these prep materials is available for three months.
LSAT Premium – 12 Months
Includes: This tier provides LSAT test-takers with more than 7,000 official questions from past LSAT tests including video explanations, 200 Logic Game explanations and more than 90 video strategy lessons. The best part of the Premium level is all of the resources are available for an entire year, ensuring you have ample time to prepare for the LSAT.
Who Should Get This: Those looking for a full 12 months of LSAT prep materials will find this course quite helpful. If money is of no concern, do not hesitate to opt for the LSAT Premium – 12 months, complete with a +5 score guarantee along with the Official LSAC Prep Plus.
|Criteria||Rating||What we think|
Though the free trial will not adequately prepare you for the LSAT, it gives you a good idea of what this prep course is all about. Give it a try to find out if the Magoosh LSAT review program appeals to your unique learning style and preferences.
The lack of a regimented structure is definitely one of the program’s weak points.
This LSAT prep course is easily accessible from just about any device and location, empowering aspiring law school students to prepare for the LSAT in their preferred manner.
Magoosh’s no questions asked money-back guarantee is one of the very few in the industries. Just email them within 7 days for a refund and they’ll give you your money back.
Note: Magoosh wouldn’t be able to refund the $99 LSAC Official Prep because that is paid out to LSAC. However, you will still have access to LSAC Official Prep for 12 months from the time of your purchase.
The user experience
Magoosh’s LSAT prep course is intuitive, providing learners with a smooth interface that facilitates learning and the development of test-taking strategies.
If you are looking for instant feedback after asking a question, Magoosh’s support might be a bit slow for you. They will usually respond within 1-2 business days.
On the other hand, the good thing about Magoosh’s support is they don’t cap you on the number of questions you ask unlike some test prep courses.
The combination of Magoosh-created practice questions combined with previous LSAT exams will certainly help you maximize your LSAT score. However, some competing programs provide more practice exams than those offered by Magoosh.
Magoosh’s video instructions improve the LSAT challenge, providing valuable insight and tips.
The Magoosh LSAT prep course’s practice questions really do make it easier to maximize one’s LSAT score. Thes questions are representative of actual LSAT test questions, ultimatley helping aspiring law school students anticipate the types of questions that will be presented on test day.
What is LSAC Official Prep Plus?
LSAC Official Prep Plus is a library of over 60 official LSAT exams given on prior test dates. It is hosted by LSAC, the makers of the LSAT, which means you can take practice tests on the exact same digital platform you’ll use on test day.
Note: LSAC Official Prep Plus is only included in their Premium plans (which I would recommend going for).
Is this course for me?
I found Magoosh will suit these individuals best:
- Self-learners: For those who are comfortable learning on their own and at their own pace.
- Video lovers: For those who learn better by watching video than through reading or live-learning.
- Busy professionals: For those who do not have much time to study and want to sneak in a practice session here and there.
In the end, I wholeheartedly recommend the Magoosh LSAT review program without hesitation. This program is especially helpful for those who are low on money and need a basic prep course that can be accessed with ease from any mobile device.
The overarching theme of Magoosh’s LSAT prep course is value. You can easily access the service’s material from a tablet, laptop or even a smartphone while you are studying in the library, a coffee shop, an airport or elsewhere. Only those looking for group formats or fancy features will find the Magoosh LSAT review program disappointing. All in all, I rate the Magoosh LSAT prep service a 4 out of 5.Go to Magoosh now
