My Typical Day

No two days are the same in the plumbing industry. The plumbing profession is very personal and hands-on, and in addition to offering quality plumbing services, a lot of the job is educating home and business owners on how to properly maintain their plumbing systems.

Whether the job is for an emergency repair or for preventative upkeep, the first thing we do when we arrive at a location is to assess the situation with the client. We discuss their expectations and offer our recommendations on next steps and expected costs.

Pros

There are many pros to entering the plumbing industry. With service industry jobs, you get paid to meet new people, solve problems, and learn new skills. Additionally, with a housing boom happening across the country, plumbing and other home-based services are in extremely high demand. Now is a great time to get into the industry because you are guaranteed to find work. Also, as a plumber, you are in control of how many clients you take on, so you have the opportunity to create a flexible schedule.

Another great benefit of the plumbing industry is the accessibility to and affordability of training and certification. In most cases, you can learn the skills of the trade at community colleges or vocational schools. Also, several plumbing businesses like Z PLUMBERZ offer great mentorship programs to new employees and provide extensive, ongoing training.

The perception of plumbing has come a long way in the past decade – however, there is still the misconception that it is a “dirty” job. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. At Z PLUMBERZ, we take pride in our work, show up properly dressed and are transparent about the work we’re doing.

Cons

Since plumbing is a client-facing industry, and professionals are most often called in when things go wrong, managing client emotions and expectations can be one of the hardest parts of the job. Plumbers must go the extra mile to please clients with quick, respectful service.

Advice for aspiring Plumbers

My advice for anyone interested in the plumbing industry would be to do your research. Plumbing is a lucrative career in an industry that has progressed exponentially over the years. A great way to find out if plumbing is right for you is to call your local plumber and ask if you can shadow for a day or participate in a ride-along to really get a feel for the job. Getting involved is the best way to see if you like the profession. We’re always looking for young talent that is passionate about helping others in need and dedicated to providing excellent service.
