Day in the life of
Life Coach – Sai Blackbyrn
I’m Sai, a life coach and the CEO of Coach Foundation.
My professional job title is Life Coach but somehow this word just irks me out. I’d rather call myself a Coach. That’s it. Because a Coach is a more encompassing word that can hold many definitions.
What a Life Coach does is basically help people out in achieving their goals or living a more fulfilling life. Some of our responsibilities overlap with that of a therapist but we have many differences. For example, my main niche of clientele is businessmen who are looking to live a happier life because they’ve just been so burnt out from their rigorous work routine.
I hold meetings with my clients on a weekly basis to discuss their ongoing issues, future prospects, and then I help them navigate their thoughts and bring a fresh perspective out towards them.
My typical day
None of my days follow any set routine. Although I have things planned, I don’t have to go about them in a certain order. But here’s how a sample weekday would go for me:
- 5:00 AM – Wake up and shower
- 6:00 AM – Breakfast and prepping for client sessions
- 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM – First client session of the day
- 10:00 AM – Get into the office
- 10:30 AM – 2:30 PM – Guide people who want to get into the coaching
business like me - 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM – Second client session of the day
- 5:30PM – End of the workday and head back to my house to enjoy my evening
As you can see, I wake up super early but end my workday around 5 PM as well. My days can get busier if I have more client sessions packed during the day or if I have to hold webinars, seminars, or coaching classes.
Pros
For me, the biggest pro of this job is that I love to do it. I love helping people out of sticky situations i.e. their thoughts. I love listening to them and then aiding them through recovery. Being a life coach is a very rewarding job in the sense that you can visibly see your actions and words positively impacting someone’s life. It’s always an achievement whenever my clients finish their sessions with me on a happier note than they started off with.
Cons
However, being a life coach can get stressful sometimes. Because the fact is that you’re helping others out throughout this job and for that, you have to be in the right state of mind all the time. And as humans, we cannot always be happy or optimistic or just in a good mood. Therefore, being a life coach can get mentally taxing.
But at the end of the day, if you want to be a life coach, you have to think about whether it’s something you really want to do or are you just doing it for the monetary rewards that it brings. If it’s the latter, then I highly suggest you stay away from it because you won’t survive too long in this space.
