Day in the life of
Publicist – Dawn Jones
In the world of public relations, no two days are the same. Common tasks that are done every day are things like pitching reporters, crafting press releases, following up with editors and clients for interviews, creating branding assets, and client relations. Writing is a HUGE part of my everyday activities – I’m always writing emails and corresponding with media, writing press releases, or writing contributed articles. Some days I get to get away from the computer and help clients with photo shoots, media relations at a show, or assist in in-person interviews. So the job is always different!
Pros
I get to work with a lot of people in different creative fields so the work is always really intriguing and every day is really different, which keeps the job from becoming monotonous.
Cons
At certain times, PR can be overwhelming and super stressful. There are times when you have to be “on-call”, work late hours, or handle a crisis in an immediate situation. That can all lend itself to a stressful work environment.
