Day in the life of
VP of Engineering – Volodymyr Shchegel
My job is very inspiring and rewarding as it helps millions of people everywhere in the world simplify their lives with technology. My typical working day consists of these types of activities:
- Conducting and attending daily/weekly stand-ups/syncs
- Reacting quickly to problems, such as issues reported by the QA team, dealing with the found bugs, and discovering possible vulnerabilities in the system
- Researching and analyzing newly-emerged digital trends
- Helping my team with work on their daily tasks
- Assessing landscape risks
- Finding optimal solutions to achieve the development goals
Working as an IT Engineer allows me to make an impact and make the digital lives of many Internet users better. Working with a huge team of highly professional people provides you with a more vast problem-solving scope in comparison to just working individually.
The position includes a vast variety of different responsibilities, but the key ones are:
- Leading and managing a team of brilliant engineers and developers
- Finding approaches to each team member to develop their skills at full strength
- Working on work-from-home approaches for my team and the company
- Collaborating on a regular basis with product managers
- Participating in cross-team brainstorms
- Data analysis
- Managing budget
- Help build company strategies
- Preparing monthly & quarterly reports for the management team
- Troubleshooting software and networks issues
- Training team members
Like every profession in the world, this one also includes both pros and cons. Here are some of the most major ones for me:
Pros
My position lets me combine IT engineering and management skills — all-in-one.
Cons
You may sometimes lack real-life communication and shifting to WFH sometimes makes you feel cut off from your team even if you e-meet daily.
