What is the job like
A little bit about me, first and foremost, I am a speech language pathologist (nothing to do with animals, right?) no, wrong! My time in graduate school really trained me on how important research is! So I have used my research background to produce the healthiest dogs that I can! I actually am a breeder and breed golden retriever puppies so that they can produce the most amazing therapeutic temperaments, as well as exceptional health! All of our dogs that live in our home are used as therapy dogs in the hospital, nursing home, and at church!
A typical day starts with working up early, as the dogs need to be fed and cared for. We let the adult dogs out to potty and begin cleaning up the puppy area (it can get very messy), then we begin socializing and training the dogs at hour home. After the dog area is clean and training is complete we bring a couple of dogs with us on the errands that we need to do, or we bring them to volunteer in some manner.
Another very important aspect of our program is doing a lot of research on Health and genetics. We are always researching the newest genetic testing/health tests and how we can provide the healthiest golden retrievers. There is never a dull moment at our ranch!
Pros
The pros are that we receive endless love from our dogs, and we are able to pawsitively impact others’ lives who really need love and therapy!
Cons
The cons are that we never have a break, as animals always need attention and care and there is A LOT of poop to pick up ?
