Responsibilities

  • I create recipes for people to use in their day-to-day life.
  • Creating recipes involve research using statistical tools. These tools help me to understand what my target audience is interested in and what type of recipes they would like to see.
  • I write content in the form of blog posts on my website, these posts include:
    • A general introduction about what I’ve made.
    • Why the readers will like it.
    • Answers to common questions such as how to store and reheat.
    • Recipe ingredients and step-by-step instructions on how to make it.
    • I embed the video I made whilst making the dish and create a recipe card for my readers to print.
    • All posts need to be written for SEO (search engine optimization) so that they will rank in the top pages of Google and drive traffic to my site.
  • I create social media ‘Pins’ for Pinterest. I send email promotions to email subscribers and submit posts to other bloggers for promotion.
  • Work with brands to promote a particular content. I.e. a social media post or by writing content. For example, this could be making a recipe using their product or ingredient.
  • Monitoring posts, updating outdated posts, updating posts that have fallen in the top page of Google.
  • Make sure the site is mobile-friendly and has a fast speed.

My Typical Day

8.00am: I start my day by preparing for the dish I will be making. This involves weighing my ingredients, setting up my camera and camera equipment. Whilst also creating the scene with props and accessories.

9.00am: I will begin baking/ cooking, taking step-by-step pictures and filming the entire process.

12.00pm: It normally takes an average of 3 hours to finish filming and taking pictures. I will take a quick break and try what I’ve made.

13.00pm: I transfer my pictures and videos to my phone or computer to edit the next day (or same day if I finish earlier than expected).

14.00pm: I aim to start writing the post for the dish I just made. I double check my keyword research before starting. This will usually take my around 6 hours or longer. If I do not finish the post the same day, I will finish it the next day and add the edited pictures and video.

Each day is different depending on my deadlines and focus. Some days will be research heavy – focusing on keywords, post ideas and keyword volume.

Whereas other days the focus could be on promotion, brand deals and creating social media posts for later use.

Pros

Two days are never the same, there’s always a new recipe to try and create. You work with different ingredients and recipes daily. You also have the opportunity to partner with brands and work with other bloggers.

You’re in control of your content, your blog and what you want to do with it. You have the creative freedom to make your blog look a certain way or to create content on a topic of your choice.

Cons

Blogging requires a lot of time. As the hours I spend working on my blog is not fixed, I do on most occasions spend over 8 hours a day getting tasks on my to-do list done.

Technical issues can be so frustrating. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes of a website that’s very complicated. If the site goes down, an issue can persist for days or weeks before being fixed.
